How to Accept Razorpay Payments Directly From Your Dental Billing Software

2 March 20267 min read

Generating a bill and collecting the payment for it are, in most dental clinic software, two completely separate events. The software prints an invoice; a human being then separately swipes a card, scans a UPI code, or takes cash, and a different human being marks the bill as paid — sometimes minutes later, sometimes at the end of the day from memory. Connecting a Razorpay account directly into clinic billing closes that gap, and it's a lot simpler to set up than it sounds.

It's your account, your money, your bank

The first thing worth being clear about: when a clinic connects Razorpay, it's connecting its own Razorpay account — the same signup any business in India completes directly with Razorpay, with its own KYC and its own bank settlement. The clinic software never touches the money; it only uses the account's API keys to create payment requests on the clinic's behalf. This matters because it means there's no middleman holding funds, no extra cut taken by the software, and no dependency risk beyond Razorpay itself.

What connecting it actually switches on

  • Paid online bookings — require a fee before a patient's self-booked online appointment is confirmed, so an unpaid slot never becomes a no-show
  • Razorpay QR billing at the counter — show a QR on screen, the patient scans with any UPI app, and the bill marks itself paid automatically the moment Razorpay confirms it

The setup, in plain terms

A clinic without a Razorpay account yet signs up directly at razorpay.com and completes a one-time KYC (PAN, bank details, address proof) — this is Razorpay's own requirement for any business accepting payments, not something the clinic software asks for separately. Once approved, the Razorpay dashboard provides a Key ID and Key Secret, which are pasted into the clinic software's "Connect Razorpay Account" screen. That's the entire integration — no code, no developer.

One account across multiple branches

Most clinic owners running several branches have one Razorpay business account, not one per location. Once connected on one branch, every other branch under the same owner can share that same account instead of completing KYC again — settlement still lands in the one bank account the owner already set up.

Why reconciliation is the real win

The time saved isn't really in collecting the payment — scanning a QR takes the same few seconds either way. It's in never having to manually mark a bill as paid afterward, and never having a bill sit "unpaid" in a report because someone forgot to update it at a busy moment.

Frequently asked questions

Does AmritSmile or any clinic software take a cut of Razorpay payments?⌄

No — the payment goes directly from the patient to the clinic's own Razorpay account and from there to the clinic's own bank account, exactly as if the clinic had built the checkout itself. The software only tells Razorpay what to charge.

Is this mandatory to use the billing software?⌄

No — it's entirely optional. A clinic that never connects Razorpay keeps billing exactly as it worked before, with cash, card and UPI recorded manually.

How long does setup actually take?⌄

Getting a Razorpay account approved typically takes about a day if a clinic doesn't already have one; connecting the Key ID and Key Secret into the clinic software itself takes under a minute once you have them.

Can one Razorpay account serve multiple clinic branches?⌄

Yes — a branch can connect to an account already set up on another branch under the same owner, instead of going through KYC again.
