Connecting Your Own Razorpay Account
No technical knowledge needed -- this walks you through getting your Razorpay Key ID and Key Secret, and connecting them to AmritSmile, step by step.
1. What does connecting Razorpay actually do?
Two things, once connected: your public online-booking link can charge a fee before confirming an appointment, and your Billing screen gets a "Collect via Razorpay QR" option -- show a QR on your screen, the patient scans it with any UPI app, and the bill is marked paid automatically the moment they pay.
This is your own Razorpay account, in your own name. The money goes straight into your own bank account via Razorpay -- AmritSmile never touches it, never holds it, and never takes a cut. This is entirely optional. If you never connect it, both of these stay off and nothing else changes.
2. Don't have a Razorpay account yet?
Razorpay is India's most widely used payment gateway -- the same one most hospitals, clinics and shops use to accept card/UPI payments online. Signing up is free and takes about 10 minutes.
- 1
Go to razorpay.com and click "Sign Up".
- 2
Enter your clinic/business details and complete their KYC (PAN, bank account details, address proof) -- this is a one-time Razorpay requirement for any business accepting payments, not something AmritSmile asks for.
- 3
Once approved (usually within a day), you have your own live Razorpay account, ready to receive payments into your own bank account.
3. Get your Key ID and Key Secret
Think of these as a username and password for your Razorpay account -- AmritSmile uses them only to create payment requests on your behalf. Treat the Key Secret like a bank password and don't share it outside your clinic.
- 1
Log in to the Razorpay Dashboard (dashboard.razorpay.com).
- 2
Go to Settings (bottom-left) → API Keys.
- 3
Click "Generate Key" (or "Generate Live Key" once your account is fully activated).
- 4
Razorpay shows you the Key ID and Key Secret together, once. Copy both somewhere safe right away -- the Key Secret is never shown again after this.
4. Enter these details in AmritSmile
Once you have both values from Razorpay, connecting takes under a minute:
- 1
Log in to AmritSmile and click your profile picture/icon (top right of the screen).
- 2
Click "Connect Razorpay Account".
- 3
Paste in the Key ID and Key Secret exactly as Razorpay gave them to you, and click "Connect".
- 4
You should immediately see a green "Connected" badge -- AmritSmile checks the keys with Razorpay right away, so a mistyped key is caught instantly instead of failing later on a real booking or bill.
5. Turning on each feature
- Paid online booking
Go to Appointment → Web Booking Settings, turn on "Charge for online bookings", and set your flat fee. Patients then pay this before their online booking is confirmed -- no payment, no appointment, so you never get a no-show from an unpaid slot.
- Razorpay QR billing
Nothing extra to turn on -- the next time you generate a bill and tick "Collect payment now", a "Collect via Razorpay QR" option appears alongside Cash/Card/Pine Labs. Tick it, a QR appears on your screen, the patient scans and pays, and the bill is marked paid by itself.
6. First payment fails with "website not registered"?
Sometimes the very first payment on a freshly connected account fails with an error like "This business is not allowed to accept payments on this website" or "payment_risk_check_failed". This isn't an AmritSmile issue -- it's a one-time Razorpay safety check. Razorpay doesn't yet know that payments will be coming from AmritSmile's booking page, so it blocks the first attempt until you register that website on your account.
- 1
Log in to your Razorpay Dashboard (dashboard.razorpay.com).
- 2
Go to Account & Settings → Business Settings (this can also show up under "Activation"), and look for "Website and App Details".
- 3
Add www.amritsmile.com as a registered website, then save. (This is the AmritSmile booking page's own domain, not your clinic's own website -- add this exact one regardless of your clinic's name.)
- 4
Give it a few minutes (occasionally a few hours) to take effect, then try the payment again.
- 5
Still failing, or can't find that setting? Email risk-notification@razorpay.com with the Payment ID and Merchant ID shown on the failure screen -- Razorpay's risk team will register it manually from their side.
7. Don't see Razorpay QR working yet?
QR Codes is a separate "product" inside Razorpay that needs activating once before AmritSmile's "Collect via Razorpay QR" option in Billing will actually work -- it isn't switched on by default just because your account is connected.
- 1
Log in to your Razorpay Dashboard (dashboard.razorpay.com).
- 2
In the left sidebar, go to Payment Products → QR Codes.
- 3
Click "Get Started" and complete the short activation for the QR Codes product.
- 4
Once it's activated, go back to AmritSmile's Billing screen -- "Collect via Razorpay QR" will now generate a working QR code.
8. Have more than one branch?
Most clinic owners have one Razorpay business account, not one per branch. If you've already connected Razorpay on one branch, every other branch can share that same account instead of going through KYC again.
- 1
Open "Connect Razorpay Account" from any branch that hasn't connected yet.
- 2
If another branch already has Razorpay connected, you'll see it listed under "Already set up on another branch?" -- tap it.
- 3
Done. Payments from this branch now go into the same account as the branch you picked. You can switch to your own account later if you ever want to.
9. Optional: make Razorpay QR confirm faster
By default, a Razorpay QR payment in Billing confirms within about a minute -- AmritSmile checks with Razorpay every couple of seconds, but Razorpay's own systems can take a little while to reflect a fresh payment. Adding a webhook (a one-time, ~2 minute step) drops that down to a couple of seconds. Skip this if a minute's wait is fine for your clinic -- everything else works exactly the same either way.
- 1
Open "Connect Razorpay Account" in AmritSmile (your profile icon, top right) -- once connected, you'll see a "Faster payment confirmation" section with a Webhook URL and a "Copy" button.
- 2
Log in to your Razorpay Dashboard, go to Settings → Webhooks, and click "+ Add New Webhook".
- 3
Paste the Webhook URL from AmritSmile into the "Webhook URL" field.
- 4
In the "Secret" field, type any password-like text of your choice -- this is yours, Razorpay doesn't generate it for you.
- 5
Under "Active Events", tick "qr_code.credited" (search for "qr code" if it's not immediately visible), then click "Create Webhook".
- 6
Copy the same secret you just typed into Razorpay, paste it into the "Webhook Secret" field back in AmritSmile, and click "Save".
10. Common questions
- Is my Key Secret safe with AmritSmile?
Yes -- it's stored encrypted, the same way we protect your WhatsApp and Pine Labs connections. It is never shown back to you or anyone else after you enter it once.
- Does the money pass through AmritSmile at all?
No. Every payment goes directly from the patient to your own Razorpay account, and from there to your own bank account, exactly as if you'd built the checkout yourself. AmritSmile only tells Razorpay what to charge.
- What if I never connect this?
Nothing changes. Online booking stays free and Billing keeps working exactly as it does today -- this entire feature is optional and off by default.
- Does a webhook need to be set up in my Razorpay dashboard?
No, not required -- AmritSmile checks payment status on its own every couple of seconds regardless, so Razorpay QR payments confirm within about a minute without doing anything extra. Setting up a webhook (see section 7 above) is a completely optional one-time step that drops that down to a couple of seconds.
- Is my webhook secret safe?
Yes -- stored encrypted exactly like your Key Secret, and it's only ever used to confirm a payment notification genuinely came from Razorpay.
- Can I disconnect later?
Yes, any time -- go to the same Payments tab and click "Disconnect" (or "Unlink", if you're sharing a branch's account).
